Nutrient Fertilization vs. Traditional Fertilization Programs

What You Should Know

Everything we put down on our lawns is a food source for some sort of microbiology, be it beneficial (good), pathogenic (bad), or benign (neither). Earthworms, microbes, fungi, bacteria, protozoa, etc. all feed off of whatever we put down on our lawns. Ever dropped a piece of hot dog or potato salad at your 4th of July picnic & minutes later see a swarm of ants hauling it off? This is exactly what happens with the microorganisms you can’t see when we apply lawn care products.

In a single spoonful of healthy, living soil there are over 1 BILLION microorganisms. For example, synthetic chemical based fertilizers are actually more appetizing to bacteria that we would rather not invite to the party while simultaneously toxic to beneficial fungus that we would like to to be there instead. As you continually feed these microorganisms, they become active, reproduce, & over time you build an ecosystem of those who you are inviting with your food sources while excluding those who don’t like to eat that recipe. Because certain organisms carry out very specific functions in your lawn while others are harmful, it is critical that we invite the right ones to the party & create a welcoming environment for them to build a naturally aerating, self-sustaining ecosystem that provides the right micro & macro nutrients to our lawn on a daily basis. By feeding the biology properly, we build an army who does the hard work for us each & every day, ultimately resulting in the best quality lawn with the lowest maintenance you can have.

That is exactly what our Nutrient Fertilization program does. In addition, your lawn needs different ingredients to build this ecosystem depending on how long they’ve been treated with chemicals & how long they’ve been on our program. For example, a chemically treated lawn that has just began on our program requires more bio-available (chelated) nutrients than one that has been on our program for years. Therefore, we have a diverse range of various 100% USDA Certified Organic fertilizers that we apply not only at certain times of the year depending on seasonality, but also at certain points in your lawn’s Nutrient Fertilization journey. The longer a lawn is maintained on our program, the less rely on immediately available nutrients & the more of a “nutrient reservoir” we build with more concentrated & proper food sources being applied.
